Interesting Aquarium

Selection of the aquarium

Type and size of the aquarium will depend on the available space, cost and the needs of the fish from. Note that larger aquariums are easy to maintain better than small ones. The reason for easier handling, the greater amount of water for waste disposal, a larger surface area for waste decomposition and a more stable environment. For example, the temperature of a 40l aquarium quickly by sunlight or a cold night to be affected as a 200l aquarium. A 200l aquarium usually has a more stable pH than a 40l aquarium. Therefore, aquarium newcomers choose the largest possible tank that they can afford financially and physically.

Site selection

The first request to the location of the aquarium should be sustainability. Water is very hard, because it weighs about a kilogram per liter. Accordingly, an aquarium with a capacity of 75 weighs about 75 kilograms and liters without the gravel or stones. Have you found a place that can carry the equivalent weight, make sure that a number of other conditions are met. The aquarium should not be in sunlight, which promotes algae growth and can affect water temperature. The aquarium should also be displayed next to a window or door, because cold air can cool the water. Just as the aquarium should not be in the vicinity of stoves or ovens, which could heat the aquarium. The aquarium should stand where you can easily replace the water and where outlets are not far away.

Cost: Unfortunately the cost to play in selecting the type and size of the aquarium is often an important role. In general, glass aquariums are less expensive than those made of Plexiglas. Normally, the smaller the aquarium, the lower the price (except for aquariums under 30 liters). The aquariums are usually the cheapest mass-produced products, ie those in quantities such as 54l, 120l or 200l.

Needs of fish: Before you pick your aquarium, you should think about how many fish you want to host there. Notice the size of the fish species of the need. For example, one of a Arowana or a peacock cichlid not expect in a 40 - gallon aquarium to survive. Although it is not absolutely necessary to determine the fish before the election of the aquarium, it is advisable.

Aquarium species

The most common glass or plexiglass for aquarium use. Both materials are suitable for rearing fish.

Glass containers have the advantage that it almost anywhere at relatively low prices are available. Glass basin of good manufacturers are basically very reliable with respect to density. Cheaper versions of other manufacturers get even more time problems with leakage or even fractures. Make sure that the aquarium is a reasonable guarantee. All glass tanks are heavy.

Plexiglass aquariums are becoming increasingly popular. These basins are lighter, more attractive and available in many sizes and shapes. Plexiglass aquariums can not leak as easily as those made of glass. Among the few drawbacks include the higher costs (than glass tanks) and susceptibility to scratches. It may happen that "bend" the pool with time.

Of course there are other types, but are not nearly as common as the two previously mentioned.

No matter what kind of pool you choose, make sure you also get a matching lid to it. These reduce evaporation and keep the fish on it from the tank to jump.

Pool shapes

Aquariums are available in different shapes, the rectangular variant is most common. Rectangular tanks are therefore well suited for fish farming, as they provide a large surface area for gas exchange. So-called "high" aquarium with a small surface, however, offer little space for gas exchange, and must always be well ventilated. General can not accommodate large aquariums as many fish as shallow aquarium.

Due to the lower surface can be formed in different pools to accommodate, for example, hexagonal aquariums, not as many fish as in rectangular basins. In addition, there are six rectangular pool is not so much open space for swimming.
