The Mailbox

Today.....a mailbox not only a practical utility object. The development of postal boxes function and design and new legislation has made the requirements and expectations of the mailboxes are significantly larger than just a few years ago. At the same time we will have a mailbox that stylistically fit with our homes and gardens. Furthermore, it is important that you connect with the purchase of new mailbox, not just look at design and price. Size, function and properties are equally important.

Galvanized steel
Most mailboxes are made of galvanized steel. When mailboxes zinc coated, steel surface covered with a layer of zinc. Zinc characteristics prevent rust from spreading. Should the subject have an injury where the raw iron is exposed, the zinc will break the rust, formed by moisture influences. Zinc would thus slowly but surely remove the incipient rust. Nuance differences will even out over time.

Hot dip galvanized steel
Hot dip galvanized steel has the same positive attributes as galvanized steel. The difference is that the zinc layer is thicker, because the electroplating is done manually.

Stainless steel
Mailboxes are constructed of stainless steel has an incredibly long shelf life. It's pretty much only vandalism that limit lifespan. Mailboxes in polished stainless steel wiped with damp cloth and treated subsequently with acid free oil.

Copper
Copper Mailboxes are usually produced by untreated copper. This means that the mailboxes will eventually get a nice, irgrøn patina. Patina can be provoked, if you want your mailbox to appear irgrøn. Of course you can also polish your copper mailbox regularly if you want it to continue to shine.

Mounting options
Many choose to mount the mailbox on the house itself. But it is also possible to place the mailbox on a pole so that it becomes a decorative object that fits your house and your taste. Please note that the mailbox must be placed in the gap (by road) at all houses that have received planning permission and be 1 to 1.2 meters above ground. It is also possible to install lighting as an Integrated wall portion of the mailbox and its stand. It can give a good effect, help the postman, yourself and well as time to be part of your outdoor lighting.

Worth thinking about
Solid lock - look for a mailbox that is assigned a decent lock, so that everyone can not break into the mailbox with a nail file.
Easy operation - mail is often something you take with in when you have your hands full of shopping bags. It is therefore a good idea to buy a mailbox that can be operated with one hand.
Divided mailbox - you can split mailboxes, so letters presented in a Lock spaces, while newspapers down in an unlocked room. That way you avoid the newspaper hanging outside, because there is no proper place.
Large mailboxes - mailboxes come in different sizes. Are you much traveling, it can be an advantage with an extra large mailbox. Remember that filled the mailboxes gossiping about your absence.

Maintenance
The surface of your mailbox should be kept clean to achieve a nice finish and durability. Smooth surfaces should be cleaned using a damp cloth with washing. Smooth painted surfaces should be waxed at least 1 time per year. Structure Surfaces clean easily with water, detergent and a soft brush and cloth. Never use solvents on painted surfaces. It can damage the surface.
